Feelin' Blue
Sometimes life is not what you dreamed it would be,some of us strive for greatness, some for wealth, others just exist. I have been thinking about my existence and I always seem to beat myself up because I'm not as "religious" as others or as pristine (vain) as some or ambitious (greedy). I am Priscilla Irene Holt Ortiz with all the rough edges and raggedy seams and I am proud of the fact I had a Dad and Mom that were less than perfect but raised us to be proud of whatever we contributed as long as we did the best we could. I have been reminded of late by people that have placed themselves on a very high pedestal because of their "religious" status and I am saddened that they disregard the hurting and needy people right in front of them while they are "fighting the good fight" to save the world, when family and friends are hurting and in need. I realize they chalk this distress up to the fact that these people were not raised in the sheltered "Church" environment and are never going to be on the same level as they are due to this enlightened upbringing. This is where they are wrong. Your good works are not going to get you anywhere as long as you are turning your back on your own. God expects you to lift them up and not judge anyone because of how they were or were not raised. They have souls and feelings and deserve to be ministered to as well as any lost soul you are allegedly seeking to bring to salvation.
I was raised in a church background and heard the gospel preached by many a good man,as with all religions backed by man, they are going to fail in some way. Funny thing is,God speaks to all of us if we are listening...Don't become too busy analyzing faults People fail, they are imperfect and a church and a religious practice are not going to change that. Become more sensitive to others that struggle, some church folk think you shouldn't be struggling if your living right.NOT TRUE! We all struggle,it is part of God's plan to make us stronger. If your not struggling you are not living! My struggles come from the cold hearted people that stand back and watch someone drowning and don't reach out to them because they have determined them to be beneath them "spiritually". Quote your Bible scriptures all you want,it means nothing if you cannot reach out to someone and understand their pain and pray for them ,not at them.
I have people in my life that I respect and admire for their stand with God. They have overcome many adversities and been an inspiration to me and my family.I do not condemn them for their beliefs. I believe they care for me and my family regardless of their "religious standing", Their prayers would be enough but some are of the "self-righteous" generation and cannot view life from a real prospective. We are sinners in their eyes and all they can do is shake their heads and be sorry for us because we did not get on the Jesus bus when they did. How sad. Being called of God does not mean you turn your back on anyone that is in need of spiritual direction..God does not judge us by the amount of religious time we spend in church.I am afraid he is very disappointed by the ones that hide behind the church because they have no compassion for the lost. Some people were not sheltered in a religious upbringing and have had to face life head on.Count your blessings and be more tolerant, that's what God would want you to do.

Livin' life
When loved ones and friends pass, the meaning becomes more profound as you get older. You begin to ponder and I just returned from the funeral of our old friend Delois,I find myself thinking of my own life and what mark I have made in this life,if any. I never had great ambitions or dreams of wealth and fame,I only wanted to be a good person, not a perfect person, just a hard working person that would always be there for someone if they really needed me.I like things, simple.
I have faults that I do admit to,my lack of patience with ignorance, which comes by watching my dad and his family come to Illinois from the backwoods of Arkansas, with barely an education and poor but they did not lack determination. I saw them struggle to survive in an environment that was totally foreign to them. They worked hard, they did not look to the government for a hand out, they trusted God and with help from each other they made a life. I saw them work regardless of their health issues, and sometimes two jobs just to make a good life for there families. They did not sit back and wait for a hand out and as tough as it was for them I admired the fact that they all managed to make a life for themselves based on their raw determination. That is something we rarely see anymore. I see so many young people these days that are just lazy and are raised by lazy parents that don't teach them that hard work and effort are rewarded with satisfaction of knowing you did your best.
This world has become a generation of selfish, greedy, uninspired, undisiplined people that are breeding another generation of future chaos. The few good, upstanding people left are greatly out-numbered and are a dying breed I am afraid.
I am proud that my family have lived their lives still carrying on those values that our parents and grandparents instilled in us and I am thankful that we will be the generation that can hold our heads proud and say we gave it our best. So I may not be a scholar,a minister,a great orator or anyone of great importance on this earth but if I gave you something to talk about or laugh about or have a fond (or not so fond) memory about and I have lived my life doing the best I could then I am content with that. Some people are meant for greatness in this life and some are not.If you fall in that catergory there is nothing to be ashamed of,God made us all and we are equal in his eyes and our individual lives are what we make them. We wouldn't be the people we are today if the people before us had been lazy, uncaring and undetermined so be grateful for that legacy. So I say goofy stuff and embarrass my kid,I laugh at silly things with my brothers and sisters, and cousins at least I can! Some families don't even speak to each other! I have a few GOOD friends,I never was one that could socialize well so if you are my friend then you are a rare find in my life.
Delois was a special friend on this earth that I respected and thought of as a mother figure in my life. She left this earth knowing she had lived a good life and walked with God.You don't have to have riches, high education,or anything else this world offers as long as you have been a good person with a caring heart just as God intended. I can't leave you any wealth or riches when I leave but know that I loved you and prayed for you and I only wish the best for you on this earth.
Don't let another day go by without expressing your love, let go of the self righteousness that has made you too critical of someone because you think they aren't as smart as you think you are, stop looking down on someone else because they don't have the kind of job that you think is admirable (at least they work), don't look down on someone because they don't dress the way you think they should (maybe they aren't as vain as you).Don't carry past hurts around and pass them on to your children. If someone was less than perfect, imagine that! Be a good person and love the ones your with. We don't get second chances so make this life count.

What the heck?

Okay so I know we get old. But how come I now have hair like I wanted when I was 15? My hair was always curly and frizzy and I hated it. Now its straighter, doesn't need ironing (remember the 60's when us curly heads ironed our hair!) doesn't need to be rolled on orange juice cans(yeah,I did it!) So now that my courtin' days are behind me I have the good hair I always wanted. Except now the old lady in me doesn't want it hanging in my face. I would rather have some curl back! Something is not right about this! I have young hair and an old lady face. I am not liking this aging process one little bit and I think I will be a Maxine as time goes by! Or as Maxine says:
The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody has the same size bucket."
"To err is human; to forgive, highly unlikely."
"Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos and pierced navels? (Now that's scary!) "
"Money can't buy happiness--but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia."
"After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching somewhere...you may be dead."
